HP Z820-GTX Workstation

A spec’d out HP Z820-GTX workstation is what you’d refer to as the “cream de la crème.” Even though the benchmarks on this system will leave you speechless there is much to be said when you put dual Intel Xeon E5-2690V2 processors along with 128GB DDR3 RAM, the NVIDIA Quadro K6000, and a 240GB SSD in a single system. Although, most would sum up their opinion with one word, “Wow!”

nVIDIA® Quadro K6000 Lightning Fast Graphics

We’ll start with the graphics. Are you working with a ‘bagillion’ textures? Are you processing the physics of the universe? Does your project have more colors than the human eye can see? No problem. That’s exactly what you can expect to be able to do with when you combine 2880 CUDA cores, 12GB GDDR5 GPU memory, and a 384-bit memory interface that dishes out 288GB/s of bandwidth on a single graphics card. This GPU was made specifically for professional high-end machines such as the HP Z820-GTX Workstation and is compatible with the latest professional applications. Basically, get ready to be able to see better than a particular super hero who fights crime in his red and blue leotard after running your project through one of these bad boys.

The Headliner Intel® Xeon E5-2690 v2 CPU

Next we touch on the processors. Two CPU’s never looked so good when their model reads E5-2690V2. 10 cores, 3.0 GHz each, 25 MB Intel Smart Cache, and all of this computational power is talking to the other CPU at up to 8GT/s. When your software supports Intel Hyper-Threading Technology there is no better way to go than these super charged processors.

The view from up top is good and that’s exactly how you’ll feel when you boot up this HP Z820-GTX Workstation to get the day started. No project too big, no time to waste. Get ready to work on one of the most powerful machines on the market.

Extended 5-Year Warranty

In regards to the future of your investment, HP Z820-GTX workstation is also covered by our 5 Year comprehensive warranty to keep your business up and running at no additional cost to you. Don’t let growth stand in the way of your business because of a technologic deficit.

I was fortunate to get my hands on a HP Z820 workstation and got some real work done using one. I spent more than a week, using this machine day in and day out running dual boot Windows 7 and Linux 6.1 with Adobe Creative Suite 5.5. The station is definitely heavy duty, and well built, solid and has a quality feel. I had used Mac Pros before a few years back and was very reluctant to switch. However, I was introduces originally to the Z800 it was an impressive workhorse. The Z820 workstation is at least 3 times as impressive with several horses and all in one slick package.

The HP Z820 workstation that I have been using had OS SSD, two SAS 2TB drives, NVIDIA Quadro K6000 graphics, and dual Intel Xeon 8-core processors. The unit runs quiet even given all the power and cooling under the covers. I connected two HP Compaq LA2405x monitors (running 1920×1200 resolution) and was amazed by how well images and video looked. The setup was quite impressive for editing photos and video, something that I do daily.

The first order of business after I got the unit, involved me installing Adobe CS5.5. Working with Adobe Photoshop CS5.5 was awesome. I worked with 24MP images from my Canon 5D Mark III, and this setup produced an impressive responsive performance, vivid/sharp colors, nice/deep blacks, and no edge gradients. I ran Adobe Premiere Pro as well on Z820-GTX workstation to make some standard editing tasks correcting color filters/effects, and multi-cam editing. With K6000 graphics dual xeon processors, the 1080p footage I worked with turned out very well. I was able to get multiple previews going while working on the main project and all was done without any choppiness or drop in performance, and all of the abundant power that the workstation offers remained mostly untapped. The software I run is very RAM hungry. My unit had 128GB DDR3 installed originally and as I am writing this review I had another 128GB added.

The HP Z820 workstation has on the front of the machine everything you need for a workstation: DVD/Blu-Ray drive, USB ports, headphone and microphone jacks, and FireWire port. The back of the Z820, you’ll find a variety of connections including dual Ethernet jacks, 4 USB 2.0 ports, 2 USB 3.0 ports, FireWire, power input, and video connections.
